~ Monica Mills, counselor and therapist ~
You find yourself reacting to situations in ways that are unhelpful and limit your ability to move toward what's most important to you, and you then feel frustrated, or even angry, with yourself for being "stuck" ...
Don’t you wish you had the tools to change that?
You’ve come to the right place.
I’m Monica, and I help adults who are growth-oriented and motivated to understand themselves better, just like you; adults who have it within them to approach each challenging circumstance and interaction with poise and equanimity, but just need the support to get there.
At the heart of my treatment philosophy is the idea that a focus on enhancing relationships is key to greater well-being – this includes our relationships with others, but also involves how we relate to ourselves, including our own thoughts and emotions.
We often deny or avoid uncomfortable feelings that are actually appropriate responses to life circumstances, and this "turning away" can keep us feeling stuck. I help clients lean toward these feelings without fear, and I empower my clients to develop effective ways of responding to challenges and take action to move toward their goals and discover what is most important and meaningful to them.
I am dedicated to teaching my clients strategies that
generate real and lasting transformation.
My training, education, and professional experiences ensure that I have the expertise you need and deserve when learning to embrace and navigate the challenges you face in life and in healing your relationships.
But the growth I have experienced personally is equally as important. As is the nature of life, I have navigated many situations that have presented both challenges and joys, including shifts in career goals, marital conflict, parenting struggles, divorce and remarriage, blending families, family illness, and transitions across life stages – both my own and those of my loved ones.
Through all of this, the process of continuous self-reflection and an openness to knowing myself better has led me to feel empowered to strengthen my relationships and to feel unstoppable in achieving all my life goals. I can help you achieve this as well. I will support you in your journey toward greater self-awareness and can help you transform suffering into thriving.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri with 25 years of experience in providing clinical and therapeutic services. I have worked with individuals across the age spectrum, with couples, and with families facing difficulties related to relationship issues, depression, anxiety, family conflict, and emotional/behavioral challenges secondary to medical and neurocognitive conditions. My training and professional experiences have taken place across numerous settings, including community mental health centers, hospitals, clinical treatment trials, and in private practice.
My practice incorporates my training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. It is further informed by mindfulness-based approaches and positive psychology, as well as couples-based approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and other models based in developmental and adult attachment theory. I effectively integrate modalities to tailor treatment for each individual or couple.
